About Us

Dog Rescue Newcastle is a group made up of people just like yourself, who love animals. We have decided to do something about the disgraceful number of animals who are euthanased daily in our community.

Statistics just released show that in New South Wales alone, there are over 60 000 companion pets killed each year, with the numbers on the increase. Most of these are healthy, re-homeable animals, with their only crime being born into an uncaring society.

We have taken it upon ourselves to save which ever animals we are capable of helping. We desex, vaccinate and microchip each dog before re-homing them into a loving, caring environment.

Zac

Our priority is to take the dogs on "Death Row" in local pounds. They are the ones who are in desperate need, with only days, sometimes hours, to live. Our resources do not allow us to take dogs from people just because they want to surrender them to us.

We would be able to help more if we had Foster Carers to hold these dogs for us, until a home could be found. Without these Carers, Rescue could not exist. If you are considering being a Carer, then take the first step and call us. For every minute you wait, a dog dies.

All that is required of a carer is an enclosed, safe yard, shelter, food, love and affection for a dog in need. Rescue pays for all Vet work and any costs incurred with the health of the dog.

Please don't say "Oh, I couldn't give the dog away!" Yes you can, the first is always the hardest, but if you consider that the dog will go to as good, if not better home than you are providing, the decision is easy. Then another life can be saved.

Give it a go. We need you.

Some things to consider

If you are considering sharing your life with a dog, then please investigate the prospect of adopting a Rescue Dog. There are many rescue groups who can help you decide which dog would be suitable for your family.

Please also consider where the pups came from before purchasing from a Pet Shop. Most dogs are cross breeds with ridiculous price tags. Some have been sourced from "puppy farmers" whose only concern is money, not the welfare of their breeding stock or puppies.

Please consider carefully if your situation and lifestyle would be the best thing for a dog.

Please do not become a "backyard breeder". If you think your dear little pup will never end up in the pound on death row, believe me, some will. Your dog is supposed to be your companion and friend, not a cash cow you make money from.

Please support Clover Moore's bill in Parliament to ban the sale of pets in Pet Shops.

Please, please, do not allow your pets to breed. Desex your pets! It is the most crucial form of prevention to stop dogs ending up in pounds. When so many dogs and cats are dying every day, please do not add to the carnage.
