BRED FOR PROFIT THEN DUMPED LIKE GARBAGE

When will it stop? You can help stop stories like this by writing to your state Member of Parliament asking them to support Clover Moore's bill to ban the sale of dogs and cats in pet shops.

In the early evening of the 9th of July 2009, one of our foster carers was walking her foster dog, near Belmont Oval. Not her usual route, nor her usual time. But, for one little girl, it was a God send.

Scotty, went off the track and would not come away from a plastic bag. She tried in vain to get him to come away, but he wouldn’t. So she decided to investigate, only to find, horror of all horrors, there was a tiny little female Maltese dog, in the bag. She was still alive, but couldn’t move. Luckily the bag was split, so she did not suffocate.

There was a quick mercy dash to the local vet, who was closing for the night, but re-opened to help this poor creature. They took her in and x-rayed her, only to find that her back was broken. Her stomach was empty and she was in filthy condition.

This lovely vet, who is not one of our regular Rescue vets, offered his services free of charge and treated the little girl as if she was a paying customer. The vet nurse took her home and nursed her through the night. All were willing to do what ever they could to help her. And I am please to tell people that it was The Lake Veterinary Hospital at Belmont who was so kind to help the dog.

Despite the best efforts of the vet and vet nurse, this poor, abused dog died in the night. At least she was finally held in loving arms for the first time in her life and didn’t die in pain, cold, hungry, and alone in a plastic bag. Rest in Peace little Angel. Karma will reap revenge on those who did this to you.

Another, horrible revelation, the little girl had given birth to puppies within the last six weeks. Where are those puppies now? Probably sitting in a pet shop waiting to be purchased for many hundreds of dollars each. To anyone considering purchasing a puppy from a back yard breeder, or pet shop you should know that this is the end result for the mother of some of those puppies.

Starved, injured and no longer of any use, she was put in a garbage bag and thrown away, like any piece of unwanted garbage. It didn’t matter to the morons who owned her, that she was still alive and suffering. Why would it matter to them, they will keep one of the pups to continue breeding. They will make it’s life hell, but why would they care. Some one will pay over $500 for each for her puppies, and not give a second thought to the poor mum, who had just been thrown out to die.

When will the law stop back yard breeders and pet shops from selling puppies? When will the life of one little dog be worth more litter tossed out of a car window?

When will Councils start fining the people who advertise these pups in the papers and on notice boards, and sell them not microchipped? The laws which are already in place are just not being enforced.

When will it stop? Who knows, but if reading this stops one person from breeding their pet or saves the life of one dog then it is worth it.

Please, if you know of anyone who may have had this little dog, please report them. They deserve to be fined and jailed and must be stopped from continuing to do this.

Please realise that this little dog and many more like her in the community, are being used as cash cows to provide tax free income. Who know how much money they made from her but they could not spend a lousy $50 to have her relieved of her misery and given a peaceful death.

When will it stop? When there is enough pressure put on the people who are in a position to do something about it. If you are just such a person, then please act now.
If you have knowledge of any back yard breeders, report them to Council, the Taxation Office and Centerlink and let them know that they are receiving tax free, undeclared income. I have to pay my taxes and so do you, so why should they be allowed to make money from the suffering of animals.

When will it stop? When good people do something to make it stop. You can help by writing to your state Member of Parliament asking them to support Clover Moore's bill to ban the sale of dogs and cats in pet shops.

THE IMPORTANCE OF VACCINATION & FLEA TREATMENT

Marcus with Parvo Virus

Marcus after surviving Parvo Virus

Marcus nearly died and suffered a lot of pain, and the tragedy is that it all could have been so easily prevented.

When Marcus was rescued from the pound he had one of the worst flea infestations we had ever seen. He was covered with them. There was a large flea nest on his head which had caused an open sore. He must have been suffering very badly.

Many people don't realise that fleas can actually kill a dog by causing anaemia and by weakening them so badly that they fall prey to diseases they might otherwise fight off. It is vital to take fleas on your dog very seriously. Sprays, powders, and shampoos alone are not effective because they kill only adult fleas. You also need to kill eggs and larvae by using a monthly tablet or skin application such as Frontline Plus or Advantix.

Because Marcus was so badly weakened by the fleas he got parvo virus in the pound. He was in a lot of pain and required a great deal of intensive veterinary treatment, but he is a fighter and he surprised us all by surviving.

Parvo virus is easily preventable with an annual injection from your vet. It is a small price to pay to save your pet's life.

PUPPIES TOSSED ON THE ROAD AND LEFT FOR DEAD
Redhead Puppies

A Redhead resident was driving home at 9:00 PM when he saw a car ahead of him had pulled over to the side of the road. When the car sped off he saw approximately 7 puppies scrambling all over the road. They had been tossed out of the car to die in the bush.

One puppy was hit by a car and died on the spot. Our good samaritan managed to grab two of the puppies before the others ran into the bush. The next morning his wife returned to the scene of the crime and found a third pup waiting by the side of the road. These three where the lucky ones. Despite a big search we were unable to find the other four puppies. They must have died a terrible death from dehydration, hypothermia, or predation by foxes.

The rescued puppies where underweight and badly infested with fleas. Our good samaritan and his wife did a marvellous job with them. They kept one of the puppies and Dog Rescue Newcastle found good homes for the other two.

Following a newspaper article, we received an anonymous tip about who dumped these precious pups. Apparently this family allow their dog and cats to have litter after litter and dump them all in the bush! We were disgusted. This is exactly why we so strongly advocate for the desexing of all domestic pets.

Because our anonymous tipster was unwilling to give their name, the authorities were unable to do anything. We worry about the mother of these poor pups. Presumably her ordeal continues.
