Rogue

RogueRogue

I just wanted to share our adoption story in case it can encourage others to do the same. We adopted Rogue, our gorgeous staffy x ridgeback puppy, through Dog Rescue Newcastle in March of this year. It has only been a short time but already we are completely unable to imagine life without her.

Rogue is the most beautiful dog - sweet natured, sociable, eager to learn and endlessly friendly. I never thought I would spoil an animal half as much as I spoil her, but I have proven to be an absolute sucker! We now make a deliberate effort to do as many outdoor activties as possible just so we can spend more time with her, and she makes friends (both 2 and 4 legged) wherever we go.

RogueRogue and her littermates were all on death row, a fact which is even more unsettling now that I know what a gorgeous animal she really is. I cannot recommend the adoption experience highly enough. Thank you so much for the work you do - you give puppies like Rogue a chance to find love in this world, and people like myself the chance to save a life and change our own in the process.

Thanks, Christine and Mitchell

Samson

SamsonJust a quick note to let you know that Samson settled in very quickly and within a week he was trying to twist us round his little finger (=paw). He loves his walks and is very friendly with us but pretty aggressive towards other dogs so we haven' t let him off the lead yet to play.

I could include a photo of Samson asleep on David's lap but Dave is asleep as well so I can't embarass him.

All the best, Geoff

Sybil

Thanks again for all your help and for Sybil. She is absolutely gorgeous. Just wanted to send a quick email to first of all say thankyou but to also let you know how she has settled in. She is so friendly and so lovely. Piglet adores her and they get on so well. They play fight, play with the toys and chase each other and even though she is tiny she can definitely hold her own and fights back if he does anything to annoy her. Then they will curl up on the couch and sleep before doing it all over again.

She is so quick and we've had a few accidents inside but for the most part she has been really good. She has her vaccination this afternoon and will start puppy preschool soon.

Thanks again. Hope you like the photos :) Cheers, Tash

It’s been 3 months since I picked up 2 very boisterous giant adult dogs from Newcastle, and put them in a van for 5 hours to bring them home… they’ve settled in so well, and I can’t imagine life without them.

ShelbyDuke and Shelby (formerly Tank and Sandy) may have been bred for pig hunting, but if I didn’t know better I’d say they were bred for foot warmers or leg weights, because they love nothing better than to collapse their giant bodies on top of my legs and look up at me with big puppy eyes.

Shelby’s definitely the boss of the two, and regularly reinforces this with Duke, but they are sooo bonded, I am really happy I took them both and that they got a home together. We had a great Christmas lounging around in front of movies, and they thoroughly enjoyed the big ham hocks they got for Christmas. Even got a sip of champagne as a treat – which they LOVED but it made them both sneeze for about 10 minutes.

DukeI love watching them run full pelt around the backyard; one hides in the bushes and ambushes the other one for some rough and tumble! They’re such a good match for each other. They’re now fully house trained, and have this week started sleeping in my room at night. They’re perfect all night, and I get a gentle wet-nosed nudge if they need the toilet during “bed time”. Occasionally I’ll wake up to dead legs, and realise they’ve both snuck up onto my bed at some point, but if I tell them to, they go back to their beds quietly.

ShelbyThey started out only sitting for treats, and not being able to be fed in eyesight of each other (as Shelby thought everything was HER share), but now feed side by side without issue (with perfect mealtime manners), and sit with just a hand signal (no vocal command required!). They truly are fantastic companions. And they don’t pull anything off the line anymore cos they know I’m coming home to them. They’re spoiled, having their giant mattress beds, their own outdoor couch, and a heated purpose-built Kennel for cold winter times, but they’re worth it all. My little (big) Godsends.

Thank you for saving these two gentle giants – they’re my best friends… and I really think THEY rescued ME! Here are some pics for you to enjoy. — Meg
