Sponsoring a Dog

If you are unable to adopt or foster a dog then sponsorship can be a wonderful way of helping out a dog in need.  Within Dog Rescue Newcastle you are able to choose the dog you wish to sponsor and make one-off or ongoing contributions.  
These can be as little or as much as you can spare. You can cancel sponsorship at any time of your choosing, you control your payments at all times.

Barbie's history is unknown to us, she was left at a pound with little to no information by her owner.

Our vet check revealed many health issues and we believe this is the reason she was disposed of.  Barbie requires medication several times a day by her foster family to treat a heart murmur, sever anxiety and more worryingly, a collapsing trachea.
  
Barbie will live her life out in permanent palliative foster care within DRN.

Bobby was born with a neurological condition which caused him to shake all over and wobble as he walked, he would stumble, fall and trip, in fact he looked like he was doing the time warp, it was terribly worrying.  He has undergone many years of trialing assorted medications and treatments.  Thanks to sponsorship contributions Bobby receives acupuncture therapy each month with positive results after each session.

Bobby loves people and thrives on attention.  He will never be like a normal dog, however he does have a quality of life and is always happy.  We will always be here for Bobby.

Cookie entered DRN with his mate Shadow. Their owner abandoned them and left their neighbours to feed them in their backyard. Shadow looks after Cookie 24/7, they are dependent on each other and due to a lack of human contact, their dependency on each other is exasperated. Cookie has no teeth, no common sense and no toileting control. Shadow is therefore his carer, his foster parents are merely Cookies eyes, ears, cook, cleaner, nurse and anything else he requires them to be.

They will both remain in the care of DRN.

Ellie had been surrendered to a pound, we think because of her many medical issues that our vet diagnosed, she entered the sponsorship program in January, 2025.

To update you further (2026), Ellie is now quite deaf and has, over time, been diagnosed with “Glaucoma” in both eyes and “Cushings Disease” which has contributed to her weight and skin problems.  She has had many teeth removed and recently, surgery to remove one eye. 

Your sponsorship helps her receive the medical treatment associated with her many conditions such as; Polytears eye drops multiple times a day, maxidex twice daily, dorzolamide 4 times daily, enucleation for her eye removal and skin care.

Ellie is a very sweet elderly lady full of personality and love.  She will remain in permanent palliative care within DRN and we thank you for your sponsorship

Floyd found himself as an unclaimed stray at the pound in a state of total shut down. This boy was so frightened of everything that he hid behind his bed, shaking and unable to control his bodily functions. Who knows what trauma he endured in the past.

Initial vet work included de-sexing and dewclaw removal, a second operation on one dewclaw was required when it failed to heal. He also required investigation into a pronounced limp on his right front leg. 

Floyd has been with his DRN foster mum for several years, in that time he has gained self-confidence within his home but still hides and shuts down when anyone visits. Floyd requires monthly adaptil collars and calming medication to assist his fearfulness.

Floyd is wonderful with the foster dogs that come and go, especially young puppies.  He is even beginning to play in his own funny way.

Freddy was born on a backyard breeding property, he was fearful of people and would wet and soil himself regularly.  We believe he was rarely handled, and when he was touched it was not with love and respect.  It has taken many years of being patient for him to finally stop biting family and close friends.  Freddy requires a monthly injection to help with pain relief for hip dysplasia. He has few teeth left, so we feed him soft foods, he loves peas.  Freddy will remain with his current carer due to his age and history.

My foster carer, vet and DRN dog trainer is working with me so I learn what is right from wrong. I think I will be here for quite a while. As of May 2022 I am being medicated and am undergoing muzzle training.   Your sponsorship will help to pay for the expensive medication and keep me healthy and safe with a full tummy.  
Speaking of which, I’m a healthy happy boy and I do love tummy rubs. I will not be available for adoption whilst I nip everyone.

Lulu is the sweetest little lady, she walks with a very wobbly gate, tests revealed she has a neurological issue in her spine, this has also affected her toileting. 

With positive encouragement, various treatments, praise and a home set up to support her lack of mobility, Lulu has come a long way and we hope will continue to do so. 

Lulu is available for adoption, however there is certain criteria to be met, we do hope to find the perfect loving home for her eventually, until then, we will continue to provide her with the necessary treatments such as water treadmill therapy and rehabilitation veterinary visits.

Little is known about Meg, her past owners adopted her from a pound.  She was very loved and spoilt by them, sadly their rental home was sold and they were unable to secure a home to move into that would accept Meg.  That forced them to reluctantly surrender Meg to DRN.

Mocha was found to be living in horrendous conditions with her mother and father.  Mocha weighed only 5.4kg.  Living with a severe skin condition, and with little to no fur on her body, she was outside on a concrete floor with no love and her needs not being met.  Her eyes, ears, body and mouth required immediate treatment.  Her owners had abandoned these three and relocated to Victoria, lucky they had vigilant caring neighbours.

Meet Molly! She suffers from extremely severe allergies.

Molly requires multiple ear treatments a day to help her chronic (and very painful) ear infections. Molly's allergies also impact her skin and cause severe irritation as well as bowel issues.She has lost a lot of teeth and the ones left are damaged due to the constant biting/gnawing for her allergies that she has done to her skin over the years.

Pippin came to DRN with many other dogs and cats, they had been used as breeding machines with a suburban backyard breeder.  Some called it his home, we call it hell.  Pippin has many many health issues and concerns because of his birth, upbringing and living conditions.  

Pippin has been diagnosed with deafness, half an ear missing, imbalance and circling, a misplaced kidney and testicle, a twisted jaw causing eating and drinking issues, canine hydrocephalus, and the need to have fifteen teeth extracted.

Pippin is a delightful fellow full of love and is blossoming every day.  He will remain in the care of his current foster carer and receive all the help he requires thanks to your sponsorship, the dedication of DRN volunteers and the love with his current carer.

10 yr old mini poodle x

Rocky was surrendered into the care of DRN after his owner had passed away.  He arrived in a severely neglected and extremely poor condition with a tightly mattered coat, it was so bad that he had to painstakingly be shaved down to his skin.  Rocky occasionally growls and bites, even though he has limited teeth.  

Our vet diagnosed Rocky with a collapsed trachea, this condition has necessitated multiple daily medications and close monitoring, especially during severe coughing episodes.  Rocky’s health will deteriorate over time, for now Rocky requires lots of love, care, patience and understanding with assorted medications.

This mum and daughter team were adopted from DRN 7 years ago. Sadly their owner passed away, and police found them after a week of living in the home without food and attention.  The experience has been traumatic for both Sally and Pippa which has affected them.
Our professional trainers are working with our DRN carer and these two little ladies to help them overcome their anti-social behaviours and fears.  We also believe being forcibly removed from their home by police has only added to their confusion and stress.
The vet also needed to extract four teeth from Sally’s mouth, which only added to her stress.
